M60 A1 Head On!

The M60 A1 series tank first appeared in 1960 and has repeatedly proven it capability and superiority over contemporary Soviet tanks off it time. The add-on reactive armor was developed in Israel by RAFAEL. These reactive armor panels are metal boxes with plastic explosive inside the outer face. The reactive armor is designed to defeat HEAT warheads, such as are used in TOW, Sagger, Copperhead and other anti-tank missiles or rockets, by exploding the missile warhead before it hits the tank’s normal steel armor.

This is and old AMT/Ertl kit from 1991 (#8864). I found it last week, sitting new in the box, in my attic. The kit has those old style tracks that are different lengths of solid tack that you need to piece together with single links of track. The model for most part does not have moving parts or options for leaving doors and hatches open. The only two parts that will move are the turret and the Commander’s Cupola.

I used Ultra flat Olive paint for the base color and weathered the paint with dark desert yellow. Then I dry brushed flat earth over the entire tank and added larger amounts inside and around the tracks and wheels. I finished the track and wheels with Tamiya Weathering stick for the look of lumped mud.
