Designed as an infantry-support tank, the Panzer IV was not originally intended to engage enemy armor—that function was performed by the lighter Panzer III. However, with the flaws of pre-war doctrine becoming apparent and in the face of Soviet T-34 tanks, the Panzer IV soon assumed the tank-fighting role of its increasingly obsolete cousin. Robust and reliable, it saw service in all combat theaters involving Germany, and has the distinction of being the only German tank to remain in continuous production throughout the war, with over 8,800 produced between 1936 and 1945.
In Mar-1943 Hitler issued a directive to outfit all new Sturmgeschütz, Panzer III, IV and Panthers with side skirts. Additionally all of these types currently deployed or undergoing maintenance were to be retrofitted with them. In early June, 1943 the first front-line units on the Russian Front retrofitted their Sturmgeschütz in time for the Kursk offensive
Academy 1:35 Scale Model built and painted my me
I want to do the T90 one of these days.
I don't know if you have ever tried this, but you can use Chalk Pastels for different colors in your weathering. What I do is turn it into powder and then with a mix of water and white glue (about 10% glue) I wet the areas I want to at the powdered chalk. You can use a brush after it's dry to remove some if you have to much. When the model is done you just need to ad a clear dull coat of spray paint to seal it. You can see how it look on my M3 LEE the best. 12jack12.deviantart.com/art/M3…
I have a few that I need to get around to building, Challenger I, Leopard 2A4, Merkava Mk1 and several others.
I'd like to get Challenger I and Merkava as well. But my dream is to build Sho't Kal. It's pretty hard to get here.
I was lucky, I found a Hobby Shop going out of business and picked up a few models at 50% off.
It was a nice old time hobby shop that had all kinds of different things.
I could have gotten 50 different kinds of plane models and the same with ships, but the armor stuff had gone quick.
There are so many field setups on tanks, that the only standard setups on most tanks were when they rolled out the factory doors!
